First, find a comfortable position. Choose a place where you can focus your attention inward and feel relaxed and alert to your body, mind, and energy.
Now, turn inward by finding a soft gaze or allow the eyes to gently close. Bring your attention to your breath and notice where it likes to go in your body in this moment. Let the breath move freely and naturally in any way it would like.
As you feel ready, allow your mind's eye to imagine a representation of Mother Earth sitting in front of you. Maybe she looks like a woman, a Goddess. Or maybe a large rooted tree or the planet itself. Whatever comes is good. Imagine this energy is breathing with you as you breathe. Notice your own inhale and exhale and use your imagination to envision the inhale and exhale of the other. Sitting across from you, they breathe as you breathe. You are connected and in perfect rhythm.
Now, in your mind's eye, imagine that your out-breath, your exhale, is her inhale and her exhale is your inhale. As she exhales, what she releases moves directly in through your inhale. Your out-breath is the Earth’s in-breath. Mother Earth’s out-breath is your in-breath and so on and so on. Practice this for a moment. Breathe with the Earth, Tree, Goddess or however you see this energy.
As you do this, become aware that everything you are releasing in your exhale is precisely what the other needs on their inhale. Your release is their receiving, while their exhale is everything you need to take in on your inhale. It is a perfectly designed system. A symbiotic relationship we have with the Earth. The Earth needs our exhale just as much as we need hers.
We are one. We are not alone but part of a perfectly orchestrated system. Just as trees need our carbon dioxide and we need their oxygen, precisely what is needed is available for us to thrive. We can rely on this process, this connection through the breath. It is always available to us.
Visualize this breathing process for as many breaths as feels effective for you. As you practice you may find that with just a few breaths you begin to feel more connected, safe, secured, and centered. You may become grounded within moments, breathing symbiotically with Earth energy through your visualization.
